Gaudi "Noble salon" set from Palacio Güell
This sumptuous furniture is cited by José F. Rafols, Gaudi's first biographer, on pages 204 and 205 of "Gaudi," his work published in 1929 by Editorial Canosa. Noting the lion's paw, Rafols remarks upon how the concern for comfort cohabits with eccentricity of form is characteristically Gaudian at Palacio Güell. The inspiration for this baroque furniture came from the sculptor Luis Bonifas y Masso (1730-1786), much admired by Gaudi. See César Martinell, "Gaudi," 1967, pages 17 and 109.
